Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend AmeriCorps and its members passion for humanity and selfless dedication to our communities; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim May 12th - 13th, 2009 as the “AmeriCorps Week” celebration in the City of Pittsburgh. Passed in Council on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.

Body
Whereas, every year AmeriCorps provides opportunities for citizens to powerfully give back to our communities throughout the country. Members serve relentlessly fighting poverty; which includes carrying projects related to public safety, the environment, youth development, and disaster relief and preparedness; and
Whereas, the objective of AmeriCorps Week is to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact, and thank the community partners for their involvement.
 
Whereas, AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners, and friends all participate in this event to encourage and promote the importance of volunteerism; and
Whereas, this year for AmeriCorps Week, three events will be held here in the City of Pittsburgh from May 12th - 13th, 2009.
