Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate these Pittsburgh Allderdice High School science students and their teachers for their outstanding achievements and for bringing pride to Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the Pittsburgh School District and the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 21, 2009, to be “ PITTSBURGH ALLDERDICE HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School is the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools eleven urban high schools, a comprehensive neighborhood school drawing students from 9 diverse communities and offering a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs reflecting the diversity of its students, backgrounds and interest. In 2008 the school was recognized as one of the top seven high schools in the region by Newsweek Magazine and whose motto is “Know Something, Do Something, Be Something” ; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School has a proud history and long tradition of excellence, and in the 2008-2009 school year produced extraordinary results in science ; and
WHEREAS, the PA Junior Academy of Science first place winners from Pittsburgh Allderdice High School are Joe Boninger, Michael Dukovic, Darya Fischbach, Shane Fischbach, Chareeni Kurukulasuriya, Ethan Myers, Grant Myers, David Clemens-Sewall and Scott Stern and second place were by Ben Niefeld, Eileen Burke and Helen Kim ; and,
WHEREAS, the Science Bowl winners who have advanced to the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl are Molly Brean, Zean Chen, David Clemens-Sewall and Annie Geller: and,
WHEREAS, the Junior Engineering and Technical Society winners who have advanced to the State level, are David Clemens-Sewall, Matt Cummings, Miriam Shiffman, Zara Koong Karuman, Joshua Safyan, Valerie Michael, Molly Brean, Eric Levine, Charlie Cohen, Josh Grill, Julia Carr, Kavish Gupta, Phil Thompson, Sam Levinson, Andrew Brown and Ellie Frye; and,
WHEREAS, the Faculty Advisors to these science students are Faculty Sponsors and
teachers Cathy DiDomenico, Angela Lindenfelser, John Milcic, Sally Martin, Linda Neumann and Dr. Waldeck, all who spent endless hours to encourage, support and prepare these students for competition.
