Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Morningside Church of God In Christ for its endless contributions and 57 years of commitment to the Garfield community; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby proclaim Sunday, April 19, 2009 as "Morningside Church of God and Christ Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, the Morningside Church of God in Christ was founded in 1928 by the late Elder Walter Richard Shields, Mother and Evangelist Beulah Shields and family at Mollenaur, PA; now Bethel Park; and  
Whereas, after moving into the city of Pittsburgh in 1943, Elder Shields continued his modest ministry on Webster Avenue in the Hill District. In 1952 Elder Shields and congregation purchased the property at 5173 Dearborn Street; and
Whereas, following in the footsteps of Elder O.T. Tillman, Bishop G. E. Vaughn, Elder Walter R. Shields,  Vaughn E. Shropshire,  Dr. Willa M. Johnson, and Elder Beulah Shields; Pastor Lamont B. Shields has incessantly fulfilled the mission of his predecessors; and
Whereas, the 80th Anniversary of the Morningside Church of God In Christ will convene Sunday, April 19, 2009.
