WHEREAS, the fine men and women of the City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Service are dedicated to bringing compassionate, life-saving emergency medical care to our streets, our homes and our work places; and
WHEREAS, with over 175 Paramedics, Pittsburgh EMS responds to nearly 55,000 calls a year, providing a wide range of services including Advanced Life Support pre-hospital care, medically directed Technical Rescue from a wide variety of accidents and entrapments, River Rescue, ALS coverage at community events and community education in CPR/AED; and
WHEREAS, our EMS professionals are recognized, world-wide, as leaders in providing pre-hospital emergency care, and most recently, by their peers, in The Journal of Emergency Medical Services; and
WHEREAS, The Journal of Emergency Medical Services is acknowledged by most EMS professionals as the most prestigious publication in pre-hospital care with a circulation of 1-2 million readers; and
WHEREAS, in their SPECIAL FOCUS: State of the Science Supplement, they included two articles featuring the Pittsburgh EMS Saving Muscle by Saving Time - STEMI Care Works like Clockwork in Pittsburgh EMS and Cooling in Pittsburgh Research & Implementation of Pre-hospital Post Cardiac Arrest Hypothermia by City of Pittsburgh EMS.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate the Pittsburgh EMS on the recognition, by their peers, for their cutting edge, pre-hospital care. The residents and visitors of the City of Pittsburgh are fortunate to have these dedicated professionals respond to our health and safety needs.
