Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Coach Jamie Dixon, his Assistant Coaches and staff and the University of Pittsburgh Men's Basketball Team for their excellent performance and achievement in their regular season and in tournament play and for bringing excitement, enthusiasm and pride to the city of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 14, 2009, to be “PITT MEN'S BASKETBALL DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh Men's Basketball Team, a Division I Team, prominently positioned and dominate in the Big East Conference, has a long history of pride and tradition ; and,
WHEREAS, the Pitt Men's Basketball Team, coached by Head Coach Jamie Dixon, the most winning of any Division I coach in his first 6 seasons, and Associate Coach Tom Herrion and Assistant Coaches Pat Sandle and Brandin Knight and its Director of Basketball Operations Brian Regan, has continued the Team's mission of achieving academic excellence, personal development, community service, career development, leadership and character development as well as basketball excellence ; and,
WHEREAS, the Pitt Men's Basketball Team has had an outstanding, record breaking season, having earned the nation's #1 ranking for the first time in school history, having defeated the nation's #1 team for the first time in school history, twice, having set a school record with 15 Big East regular season wins, completed its home season undefeated (19-0) for the fourth time in school history, made a school record eighth straight NCAA tournament appearance and having earned its first ever #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament ; and,
WHEREAS, the 15 members of the Pitt Men's Basketball Squad brought honor and glory both to the University and to the City of Pittsburgh and saw Senior Sam Young and Sophomore DeJuan Blair earn Associated Press All American Honors. Sam Young and DeJuan Blair and were also named to the Wooden All American Team. DeJuan Blair, a graduate of Pittsburgh Schenley High School, became the first Pitt Men's Basketball Player since 1958 to earn First Team All American Honors fro, the Associated Press; and,
WHEREAS, the Pitt Men's Basketball Team made it to the NCAA Elite 8, having defeated East Tennessee State in the first round, Oklahoma State in the 2nd round and Xavier in the Sweet Sixteen, thus advancing to the Elite 8 for the first time since the tournament went to 64 teams...
