WHEREAS, on the 26th day of March, 2009, family and friends gather together to celebrate the life and career of Aaronel deRoy Gruber; and,
WHEREAS, Aaronel deRoy Gruber is a multi-talented artist who excelled at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; and,
WHEREAS, Aaronel met and married Irv Gruber and together raised their three children, Jon, Jamie and Terry; and,
WHEREAS, at a time when few women were recognized as serious artists, Aaronel deRoy Gruber was a role model and continued her career in art, working in her own studio and evolving from an abstract expressionist painter to a sculptor in plexiglass and metal to a photographer; and,
WHEREAS, her sculpture, Steelcityscape, 18 feet tall and 31 feet long, owned by the City of Pittsburgh, graced the portico of the City-County Building; and,
WHEREAS, Aaronel deRoy Gruber has shown her work in New York City, Italy, Japan, Spain and throughout the world, not only promoting her career but serving as an ambassador of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her life, Aaronel deRoy Gruber has continuously supported the Pittsburgh arts community and has served on the Board of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and other organizations.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate Aaronel deRoy Gruber for a lifetime of achievement in the arts and commends friends and family for the event to honor her; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, March 26, 2009, to be " AARONEL deROY GRUBER DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
