Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend and congratulate Pittsburgh Musical Theater on 19 years of service to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh and 18 years of Summer Musical Theater, and wishes them “Break a Leg” in their upcoming performances.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater is a nonprofit corporation which was founded by Dr. Kenneth V. Gargaro nineteen years ago as Gargaro Productions; and

WHEREAS, for the past 19 years, Pittsburgh Musical Theater has provided quality musical theater to the Pittsburgh region while educating our youth and developing and employing local talent; and

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater's mission is to provide quality musical theatre to Pittsburgh at affordable prices, educate our youth, and employ and support local talent; and

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater has given local talent the opportunity to perform as far away as Canada and Florida, in addition to many portions of the Tri-State Area, yet retains its priority of providing musical theatre to the City of Pittsburgh, and maintains its office, school, and rehearsal space within the City, in the West End, and performs in many other neighborhoods, including the North Side, Oakland, and the South Side; and

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater supports arts education in local schools and offers many educational opportunities for Pittsburgh youth including a summer day camp (Summer Musical Theater), which have helped train theatrical professionals who have gone on to work in local theatre and nationwide, including on Broadway, in addition to rounding out the education of students who have gone on to other walks of life; and

WHEREAS, the Spring Musical Theatre program is now underway for 2009, and the students are preparing for public performances at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side, March 26th through 29th, including a presentation of Willy Wonka Junior; and

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater will once again be performing free for the public at the West End Overlook this summer;
