WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Coro Center for Civic Leadership opened in 1999 with the launch of the Fellows Program in Public Affairs; and
WHEREAS, the two overarching goals of the Coro Center are to attract and retain young leaders for the region and to create an immediate and powerful difference in our community's development; and
WHEREAS, Coro trains ethical and diverse leaders nationwide, and has offices in San Francisco, New York, Cleveland, Kansas City, Los Angeles and St. Louis, in addition to Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Coro Center offers several unique fellowships, including Women in Leadership, Public Allies, the Neighborhood Leaders Program, African American Community Leaders Fellowship, and Running for Public Office; and
WHEREAS, Coro Fellows are placed in internships in a variety sectors including business, government, media, labor, non-profits; and
WHEREAS, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership is holding its annual Selection Day event on March 13, 2009, to select the next class for the Fellows Program in Public Affairs; and
WHEREAS, members of several community organizations volunteer their time to assist in interviewing and selecting the sixteen individuals who will participate in the rigorous nine month program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and thanks the Coro Center for Civic Leadership for its commitment to creating ethical and effective leaders; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares March 13, 2009, "the Fellows Program in Public Affairs Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
