Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Conan O'Brien for his contributions to entertainment and comedy; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Monday, June 1st, 2009, to be “CONAN O”BRIEN DAY“ in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Conan O'Brien was born in Brookline Massachusetts in April of 1963 to Dr. Thomas and Ruth Reardon O'Brien; and,
 
WHEREAS, while attending Harvard University where he majored in American history, he was twice elected president of the Harvard Lampoon; and,
 
WHEREAS, after graduation, he moved to Los Angeles writing for the cable series Not Necessarily the News, a cable comedy series, at the same time performing with the improv group, The Groundlings. He wrote for Saturday Night Live from 1988 until 1991 and then joined The Simpsons as a writer, becoming a supervising producer for the 1992-1993 season. He also co-starred with Councilman Doug Shields in Jeff Goldblum's movie "Pittsburgh"; and,
 
WHEREAS, from April of 1993 until  February of  2009, he has hosted Late Night on NBC establishing himself with his own style of self effacing off-beat comedy; and,     
 
WHEREAS, Conan O'Brien will become the 5th host of The Tonight Show on June 1st 2009, following in the footsteps of Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Johnny Carson when current host Jay Leno steps down; and,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Conan O'Brien for his contributions to entertainment and comedy; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Monday, June 1st, 2009, to be "CONAN O"BRIEN DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
