Title: Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares February 7, 2009 "Bernard and Anna Taylor Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Anna and Bernard Taylor, Sr. were united in marriage fifty years ago on
February 7, 1959; by Reverend James Cox at Calvary Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and,

Whereas, they have six children: Captain Victor Tyrone, Sr. of Mitchellville, Maryland; United States Army, Retired, Carson DeWitt of Sylacauga, Alabama; Dr. Bernard Taylor, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Superintendent of Schools, Grand Rapids, Michigan Public Schools); Randall Taylor of Pittsburgh, (Director, Pittsburgh Public School Board); Callen Bruce of Pittsburgh, (Tip Staff, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas), and Derek Chance also of Pittsburgh; as well as ten grandchildren; and,

Whereas, Mr. Bernard Taylor, a graduate of Fifth Avenue High School, is a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a retiree from the United States Postal Service. Earlier in his career, he had been employed by the Veterans' Administration, Forbes Field, and Three Rivers Stadium. A devoted Pirates and Steelers Fan, he currently works at PNC Park and Heinz Field; and,

Whereas, after attending school in Sylacauga, Alabama, Mrs. Anna Taylor came to Pittsburgh and remained here to raise her family. Her career has ranged from working for the Allegheny County Housing Authority to Equibank. She has given care to many children throughout her years; and,

Whereas, the Taylors are devoted members of Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Church where Mr. Taylor serves on the Board of Trustees and Mrs. Taylor serves on the Senior Usher Board and sings in the gospel chorus; and,

Whereas, the Taylors have been Pittsburgh residents, living in the Hill District, Homewood-Brushton and in Highland Park for 40 of their 50 years in Pittsburgh,
Now, therefore be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the Taylors on fifty years of marriage and service to their family and community,
