Whereas, the City of Pittsburgh and its surrounding communities share a proud history in the annals of the sport of boxing: and,
Whereas, this proud history is demonstrated by the many champions at all levels of the sport that hail from our region; and,
Whereas, the City of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania remain home to a multitude of gyms and clubs that teach, train and promote the sport of boxing; and
Whereas, this past year, Pittsburgh Amateur Boxing and City Controller Michael Lamb worked together to bring the Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament back to Pittsburgh for the first time in many years; and,
Whereas, the Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament produced a new group of young boxing champions that call Pittsburgh home and train at local gyms and boxing clubs; and,
Whereas, the following young fighters boxing out of their respective gyms and clubs have won the Pennsylvania Silver Gloves Championships for their age and weight class:
8-9 year old - CALVIN TAYLOR of FLOOD CITY, and MARQUIS TIGNOR of S.O.S.;
10-11 year old - 85 lbs class CARTER CHERRY of BOYCE P.A.L., 90 lbs class SCOTT OSHINSKI of WAFA;
12-13 year old - 70 lbs SHAWN CUSICK of SOUTH PARK, 75 lbs JIM EMERICK of S.O.S., 80 lbs JUSTIN EMERICK of S.O.S., 95 lbs MATT CONWAY of SOUTH PARK, 100 lbs CALIB PARISH of WAFA;
14-15 year old - 112 lbs JOHN GIAZIANO of STEEL CITY, 119 lbs ROSY MORALES of ELLWOOD CITY, 132 lbs CC CLARK of WAFA, 156 lbs GERALD SHERREL of E SIDE P.A.L., 165 lbs BEN MAINE of ELLWOOD CITY, and in the female division, 132 lbs DOMINIQUE GERLACH of WAFA; and,
Whereas, the following young fighters boxing out of their respective gyms and clubs have won the Western Pennsylvania Silver Gloves Championships for their age and weight class: 12-13 year old, 106 lbs LUKE GLOECKER SOUTH PARK; 14-15 year old, 147 lbs DERRICK SMAIL, STEEL CITY; and
Whereas, the Pennsylvania Silver Glove Champions will go on to represent our community and state this weekend at the Silver Gloves Tournament in Cincinnati Ohio.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commend Pittsburgh Amateur Boxing, City Controller Michael Lamb and our Silver Glove Champions for continuing the stellar boxing history of our community and wishes all of our fighters good luck in their bouts this weekend.
