Title: Now, therefore be it resoloved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes and commends the Pittsburgh Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on 87 years of nurturing community leaders and advocates, and providing brotherhood and camaraderie to the members of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter, and Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, on the occasion of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter's Founders Day Celebration, hereby declares January 17, 2009, “Kappa Alpha Psi Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, on January 5, 1911, Elder W. Diggs, Byron K. Armstrong, and eight other students on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana chartered the first chapter for what has now become Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity whose mission is to raise the sights of young collegians and spur them on to great achievements; and
Whereas, Kappa Alpha Psi remains the only Greek letter organization with its first chapter on Indiana University's campus; and,
Whereas, The fraternity now has over 150,000 members with undergraduate and alumni chapters in every state of the United States , as well as around the world; and,
Whereas, The Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was founded in 1922 and has since grown to include undergraduate chapters at the University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, California University of Pennsylvania, Edinboro University, West Virginia University, and Clarion University; and,
Whereas, The Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter is comprised of over three hundred graduate members who are active and vital members of their communities; and,
Whereas, The Elder Watson Diggs Award, the highest and most coveted award that the Fraternity can give, has been awarded to two Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter members: Lt. Colonel George N.C. Charlton, Jr. and Eric S. Morris.; and,
Whereas, two of the founders of the Beta Epsilon Chapter located at the University of Pittsburgh -Russell Washington and Len Hill-both are over 90 years old and continue to be active in the Pittsburgh Alumni chapter; and,
Whereas, the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund (KSEF), the not-for profit arm of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter has awarded thousands of dollars to deserving high school students in the Pittsburgh Community and has partnered with Robert Morris University and Penn State University to offer four-year, full tuition scholarships;
