Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh strongly supports the development of a global warming strategy in Pennsylvania that will help protect our state's heritage, our citizens' health, and our economy and urges Governor Rendell and the Pennsylvania General Assembly to promptly adopt policies that will create a strong state action plan to cut all heat-trapping gases 25 percent by 2025, and 80 percent by 2050, based on sound science; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution shall be transmitted to Governor Rendell and the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

WHEREAS, CoolPennsylvania: The Campaign to Stop Global Warming is an effort led by PennFuture to reduce Pennsylvania's heat-trapping emissions; and
 
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania produce more heat-trapping gases than 101 countries combined and is the third largest producer in the United State behind only California and Texas; and
 
WHEREAS, global warming will affect Pennsylvania's environment and economy by harming the state's ski industry and cold water fisheries, spreading more diseases formerly found only in hotter climates, increasing the number of heat waves, changing crop yields, deforestation, and increased flooding; and  
 
WHEREAS, over 300 businesses, faith communities, public officials, sporting groups, environmental, advocacy, educational, and public policy organizations have joined CoolPennsylvania.
