Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize this remarkable book and CD, The Point of Pittsburgh and congratulates Charles McCollester, Bill Yund and Mike Stout; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 16, 2008 to "THE POINT OF PITTSBURGH DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Point of Pittsburgh: Production and Struggle at the Forks of the Ohio by Author Charles McCollester is about how one city was the key to the industrial development that made the United States a world power and how the struggle of the region's people for democratic rights and a decent standard of living was central to the creation of the American middle class; and,

WHEREAS, The Point of Pittsburgh tells the stories of the unsung heroes and heroines whose lives burned with the light of genius, as well as those who built the organizations and communities that made life tolerable and fruitful; and,

WHEREAS, beginning with the Indians and the workers, not the generals and titans of industry, and ending with Bill Mazeroski's home run in 1960 when Pittsburgh was a the height of its happiness, its industries strong and vital, its people prosperous and optimistic, the book asserts in illustrious detail that what happened in this city and to this city reveals a great deal about what this country was and what it has become ; and,

WHEREAS, The Point of Pittsburgh CD features songs for the unsung heroes in the book with poignant ballads, songs of nostalgia, love and glory about characters such as Monsignor Rice, Billy Conn and Martin Delany and concludes with the memorable tune, "Happy Birthday to Pittsburgh", an uplifting yet bittersweet reminder of 250 years of epic human drama as well as Steeler Nation pride that indelibly etches Pittsburgh into the world's consciousness; and,

WHEREAS, The Point of Pittsburgh is authored by Charles McCollester with illustrations by Bill Yund and the stirring companion CD by Mike Stout.
