Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Andy Gastmeyer for his dedication to serving the public by providing fair, accurate, and balanced reports on the region's most important news stories; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Tuesday, December 9, 2008, “Andy Gastmeyer Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, a native of Port Jervis, New York, Andy Gastmeyer has made Pittsburgh his home; and
 
WHEREAS, a graduate of Old Dominion University, Andy worked as a page for NBC in New York before receiving his first on-air job with WAVY in Norfolk, Virginia in 1968; and
 
WHEREAS, Andy has been a White House correspondent for both Television News, Inc., as well as Satellite News; and
 
WHEREAS, Andy's Pittsburgh television career began in 1976 with KDKA and has continued for the past 24 years with WPXI; and
 
WHEREAS, over the years, Andy has been a leader in reporting many of the region's most significant stories, including the crash of flight 427, the Hurricane Ivan floods, the crash of flight 93 on September 11, 2001 and every major local, state, and national election for the past 24 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Andy has received four first place awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press for his investigative reports on Met Life Services, the Pirates, and bar beatings and received the National POW/MIA League Humanitarian Award for his coverage of Virginia Beach POW families; and
 
WHEREAS, outside of work, Andy is a passionate cyclist and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Andy Gastmeyer for his dedication to serving the public by providing fair, accurate, and balanced reports on the region's most important news stories; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Tuesday, December 9, 2008, "Andy Gastmeyer Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
