Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby congratulates Clarence and Floretta Irvin on 50 blessed years of marriage and wishes them a most happy Anniversary. Their dedication and commitment to the City of Pittsburgh is commendable; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Saturday, October 18, 2008 as "Clarence and Floretta Irvin Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Clarence and Floretta Irvin met in October 1957 and were married on December 19, 1958 at Baptist Temple Church located in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, after serving in the United States Army, Clarence joined the workforce with the United States Post Office where he was employed for 30 years. After his retirement from the Post Office he worked part-time with the State Government for 15 years and retired from that service in 2007; and
 
WHEREAS, Floretta had the privilege to work with all four branches of government and retired from the State government in 1996. She actively serves as a member of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, as well as an officer of the County Committee. Floretta has been a member of the Homewood Community for over 55 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence and Floretta are extremely proud and devoted to their four children and four grandchildren; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence and Floretta Irvin are celebrating their Anniversary with a Fall Luncheon Reception on Saturday, October 18, 2008.
