Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh and the Community Heroes Awards honorees for their commitment to supporting people with disabilities in the community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Wednesday, October 22, 2008, “United Cerebral Palsy Community Heroes Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh will be hosting its sixteenth annual Community Heroes Awards Dinner to honor individuals and companies who have contributed to their mission of assisting disabled people in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh, or UCP, serves people with disabilities, including cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, and mental retardation; and
 
WHEREAS, UCP's Community Living and Support Services (CLASS) program serves more than 200 disabled individuals daily, by providing vocational training, at-home support, skill-building classes, and outreach programs; and
 
WHEREAS, UCP's Community Service Centre in North Oakland is home to the organization's headquarters and training center, in addition to providing a community center and art gallery for the neighborhood; and
 
WHEREAS, Dee Delaney, the Executive Director of the FISA Foundation, Tina Calabro, of the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation, Richard Simpson, Ph.D., of Kinder Kinetics, and The Pittsburgh Foundation will be recognized and honored for their commitment to helping UCP achieve its goals; and
