WHEREAS, in 1988, six individuals, driven by a goal to give back to Pittsburgh and the surrounding region, founded the Pittsburgh Young Professionals; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Young Professionals is run by a 12 member volunteer board and an executive committee; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Young Professionals is a not-for-profit organization, utilizing core values of leadership, community, professional development, friendship, and diversity to enhance career-minded individuals and afford them the opportunity for personal and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Young Professionals serves the community by providing leadership and support, including a program which awards an annual scholarship for an individual to pursue a graduate degree with the condition of remaining in the Pittsburgh area upon graduation; and
WHEREAS, over the last 20 years, Pittsburgh Young Professionals have expanded their membership from the six founders to over 350 members.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City Pittsburgh recognizes the 20th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Young Professionals and commends the organization for its work in the Pittsburgh region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 19, 2008, "Pittsburgh Young Professionals Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
