Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, on behalf of the city he loves, does hereby recognize and commend Steve Woods for his devotion to his family; for his excellence in his profession; and for his many selfless acts on behalf of those in need of an outlet for grief, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, in wishing Steve a long, happy and well deserved retirement, does hereby declare Monday, June 30, 2008, to be Steve Woods Day In The City Of Pittsburgh

WHEREAS, the Highmark Caring Place has, since 1996, provided a reprieve for grief-stricken children and families, while working to ensure that those families find hope and comfort, and
 
WHEREAS, from The Caring Place's very beginning, Steve Woods has served as the Family Services Coordinator, as well as a Child Grief Specialist and provided a gentle presence and unwavering advocacy for children during a most difficult time, and
 
WHEREAS, Steve has been the "first voice" to thousands of grieving parents and caregivers, providing reassurance and comfort during life's most difficult moments and has served as a guide to numerous families as they learned to share their grief with others through The Caring Place, and
 
WHEREAS, He is a loving husband to Ellen, whom he met on a blind date, and together they have seven children and now eleven grandchildren with the newest born this week, and
 
WHEREAS, He is loved by his colleagues and all who know him for his humor, humility, and passion, as well as his story telling, listening, vests, and profound love of this city and his sayings such as "Save ME a seat" and "See yunz guys next Christmas," and
 
WHEREAS, On June 30th he is retiring after twelve dedicated years of service to The Caring Place and to all those in need of bereavement.
