Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to honor Mrs. Maggie Ruth Salter Johnson on her 100th birthday, which she will be celebrating on April 19, 2008, while additionally thanking her for all of her hard work and dedication to the improvement of our greater Pittsburgh community.

WHEREAS, born on April 19, 1908 in Evergreen, Alabama, Maggie Ruth Salter Johnson has dedicated much of her life to community service through her continuous involvement in both the Pleasant Growth A.M.E Zion Church of Birmingham, Alabama and the Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson became an active member of the Pleasant Growth A.M.E. Zion Church in Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 19; and
 
WHEREAS, on April 4, 1936, Mrs. Johnson married Mr. Fred Johnson and eight years later, moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she raised a son, Fred Larry Johnson, and assisted in the upbringing of two grandchildren and one great grandchild; and
 
WHEREAS, since moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Johnson has been a committed member of the Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church, where she has tirelessly served the church and the surrounding community through her work in the Church's Sunday School, its Missionary Society, as a Class Leader, and also as a member of the Deaconess Board.
