Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater for 39 years of remarkable achievement in the arts and dance and congratulates the PBT for presenting the enchanting North American Premiere of Alice in Wonderland; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize today and honor Alice, the Mad Hatter and Tutu Heart here in full regalia before the City Council of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 17 - 20, 2008, to be “ALICE IN WONDERLAND DAYS” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater was founded in 1969 by Nicholas Petrov, then Director of the Dance School Program at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, and has grown over the last 39 years into a world class dance and artistic institution and is among the elite of national ballet companies in the country; and,

WHEREAS, over the last 39 years, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater has toured extensively through 28 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, has presented works rich both in the classics and by contemporary choreographers and has had renowned artistic directors and leadership, distinguishing itself with its arts education, community programs and its Ballet School ; and,

WHEREAS, once again, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater takes center stage as it proudly presents, direct from London, the magnificent North American premiere of Alice in Wonderland from April 17 - 20, 2008, at the Benedum Center; and,

WHEREAS, the production of Alice in Wonderland is Lewis Carroll's engaging fantasy brought to life in this critically acclaimed production, featuring magnificent choreography by Derek Deane, fabulous designs by Sue Blane and breathtaking illusions, magic and mystery of this children's book as it is creatively translated to the stage; and,

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater invites all of Pittsburgh to attend one of the performances of this blockbuster production. .
