Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, honors the memory of Mrs. Evelyn Page Parker; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, hereby declares March 1, 2008, “Mrs. Evelyn Page Parker Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, On March 1, 2008, Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action, will honor the memory of Evelyn Page Parker R.N., M.P.H., at the historic St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Parker was a trailblazer in the field of nursing. In 1940, Mrs. Parker entered Mercy-Douglass Hospital School for Nurses in Philadelphia, she completed her basic nursing education in 1943; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Parker went on to earn her B.S.N. in 1961 form the University of Pennsylvania, and continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a Master in Public Health in 1969; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Parker become an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, teaching community health concepts and practices in relation to medical-surgical and obstetrical nursing from 1969-1981. She also taught at Duquesne University's School of Nursing from 1981-1984; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Parker was a member of the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action,  the local chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, whose founding principals are that African American nurses possess the understanding, knowledge, interest, concern and expertise to make a difference in the health care status of African American communities across the country; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Parker, was a Pittsburgh native, a community servant and an active member of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church. Mrs. Parker had one son, Thomas, a daughter-in-law, Patricia and three grandchildren: Michael, Thomas and Paris; and
