Title
WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Greater Pittsburgh, an exceptional subset of the LWV of the United States, holds the central purpose of making democracy work for all citizens; and,
WHEREAS the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy; and,
WHEREAS, this year the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh will be celebrating 11 years of civic leadership with the 2007 Good Government Awards; and,
WHEREAS, those to be honored are:
· Arthur Ziegler, Jr.
· Barbara McNees
· Heather Harr
· Joseph Lagana
· Allegheny County Library Association
· Homeless Childrens' Education Fund
· Student Voices.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the immeasurable commitment of the members of the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh as well as the remarkable awardees and thanks the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh for hosting the "2007 Good Government Awards" to honor such individuals; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, October 18, 2007 to be "League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
