Title: WHEREAS, on October 16, 2007, Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh (WIFM) will be hosting their first Opal Awards to honor local women who have made an impact in television and film; and WHEREAS, WIFM is among 37 chapters around the world that are dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film, video and other screen based media; and WHEREAS, WIFM places an emphasis on education and works in conjunction with other non-profit organizations to help community members gain access to the media industry; and WHEREAS, a WIFM Opal Award will be presented to Suzanne DeLaurentis, for her achievements in film and television as the producer of films, including 10th and Wolf; and WHEREAS, WIFM will award the Patti Burns Award for Excellence and Achievement in Television Scholarship to Heather Mallick in honor of the late Patti Burns. WHEREAS, WIFM is among 37 chapters around the world that are dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film, video and other screen based media; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh for their dedication to local women in the media, and congratulates the Opal Award winners on their achievements; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 16, 2007, "Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
