Title: WHEREAS on February 11, 2007, thanks to the quick thinking and thoughtful actions of five young Pittsburgh teens, the life of their friend, Ricardo Lowry, Jr., a ninth grader at Perry Traditional Academy, was saved; and WHEREAS while playing outside with his friends, Ricardo Lowry, Jr., lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest as a result of an enlarged heart caused by Marfan syndrome; and WHEREAS Ricardo's friends responded to his non-responsiveness by keeping him warm, calling 911 via cellular phone, locating nearby adults, and running to Ricardo's home in order to notify his family; and WHEREAS after being transported to Allegheny General Hospital and then taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh by emergency personnel, Ricardo Lowry, Jr. remained in the hospital for ten days, during which time he underwent surgery and received a pacemaker; and WHEREAS during his hospital stay, Ricardo was supported by nightly visits from the same group of friends who had saved ...

WHEREAS on February 11, 2007, thanks to the quick thinking and thoughtful actions of five young Pittsburgh teens, the life of their friend, Ricardo Lowry, Jr., a ninth grader at Perry Traditional Academy, was saved; and

WHEREAS while playing outside with his friends, Ricardo Lowry, Jr., lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest as a result of an enlarged heart caused by Marfan syndrome; and

WHEREAS Ricardo's friends responded to his non-responsiveness by keeping him warm, calling 911 via cellular phone, locating nearby adults, and running to Ricardo's home in order to notify his family; and

WHEREAS after being transported to Allegheny General Hospital and then taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh by emergency personnel, Ricardo Lowry, Jr. remained in the hospital for ten days, during which time he underwent surgery and received a pacemaker; and

WHEREAS during his hospital stay, Ricardo was supported by nightly visits from the same group of friends who had saved his life on February 11th, with these young men keeping vigil over Ricardo for the entire night during his first evening of hospitalization; and

WHEREAS the students responsible for Ricardo Lowry, Jr.'s survival are Sean McHenry, a ninth grader at Langley High School; Terrance Northington, an eighth grader at Frick Academy of International Studies; Brennan Porter, a tenth grader at Oliver High School; Marcus Porter, a seventh grader at Schiller Classical Academy; and Demetres Stevenson, a tenth grader at Perry Traditional Academy.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to recognize the heroics of Ricardo Lowry, Jr.'s friends, as they came to his aid and consequently, saved his life.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby also wish to commend these five young men along with Ricardo Lowry, Jr. for their courageous efforts and their strong sense of camaraderie, thereby proving ...
