Title: WHEREAS, William Joseph Lewis married Lou Edna Carrington on Friday, March 11th, 1910 from this union were born 19 children including 5 sets of twins; and WHEREAS, they lived in Darlington Heights, Virginia where William Joseph who was known as Papa Joe, grew wheat, corn, tobacco and raised chickens, hogs and cows to feed his family; and WHEREAS, Lou Edna who was affectionately known as Mama Lou was recognized and honored as a social activist who fought for equal busing and education for children of all races; and WHEREAS, we would like to welcome the Lewis-Smithers family reunion to be held in Pittsburgh, America's most livable city, July 20th, 21st and 22nd, 2007 restarting a tradition which began in 1951 with the first reunion; and WHEREAS, "A Celebration of Life" is the theme of the reunion and is especially fitting as they now have seven generations of from the marriage of William Joseph and Lou Edna Lewis, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the ...

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Lewis-Smithers Family Reunion; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Saturday, July 21st, 2007 as "Lewis-Smithers Family Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
