Title: WHEREAS, after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Mr. Alex Wilson will retire as Executive Director of Shuman Juvenile Detention Center: and WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson began at Shuman Center as director of training and staff development, with responsibilities which included planning and implementing training for management, supervisory, and line staff. In August of 1991 Mr. Wilson was appointed Executive Director, with major duties and responsibilities which include setting goals and objectives for the organization, preparing an annual operating and capital budget and managing a staff of 200 employees; and WHEREAS, Alex Wilson has served as President of the Juvenile Detention Centers Association of Pennsylvania from 2002 through 2004. He also was Governor appointed to serve on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's Juvenile Advisory Committee in 1998 and again in 2003. WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson began at Shuman Center as director of training and staff development, with responsibilities which included planning and implementing training for management, supervisory, and line staff.  In August of 1991 Mr. Wilson was appointed Executive Director, with major duties and responsibilities which include setting goals and objectives for the organization, preparing an annual operating and capital budget and managing a staff of 200 employees; and
 
WHEREAS, Alex Wilson has served as President of the Juvenile Detention Centers Association of Pennsylvania from 2002 through 2004.  He also was Governor appointed to serve on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's Juvenile Advisory Committee in 1998 and again in 2003.  He currently serves as a member of the Pittsburgh Board of Education's Interagency Council on Drugs, Alcohol, and Weapons; and
 
WHEREAS, In October of 2004, Mr. Alex Wilson retired from the Air Force Reserve after serving 28 years.  He holds both his Bachelor and Master's Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.  Of all his accomplishments Mr. Wilson is most proudest of his his four daughters Deneen, Danielle, Deborah and Diana, two of whom are grown and live and work in Pittsburgh.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Mr. Alex Wilson for his commitment and dedication to our troubled youth and their families.  
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH DECLARE May 29, 2007 as "Alex Wilson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
