Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby wishes to sincerely honor Mrs. Anita Mae Whitsett Brown on her 90th birthday, which she will celebrate on November 10, 2006, while additionally thanking her for all of her tireless dedication to the betterment of her community and the City of Pittsburgh in its entirety.

WHEREAS born on November 10, 1916, on Shetland Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Anita Mae Whitsett Brown has dedicated much of herself and her time to the service of the City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh's Baptist community; and
 
WHEREAS Mrs. Brown attended Westinghouse High School, graduating with honors in 1934; and
 
WHEREAS having begun her undergraduate studies in 1935 at the University of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Brown later received her Bachelor in Science degree in 1943 from Lincoln University, which is located in Jefferson City, Missouri; and
 
WHEREAS also in 1943, Mrs. Brown married the Revered Augustus C. Brown, her husband of forty and one-half years.  Together, Mrs. Brown and her husband would raise their six children and assist with the upbringing of their eight grandchildren and six great, grandchildren; and
 
WHEREAS Mrs. Brown has consistently demonstrated her commitment to the enrichment of East Liberty, the Hill District, and the City of Pittsburgh at large, by working as a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public School System and by volunteering as the organist for the Ministers' Wives of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association, as an art teacher in the Summer Enrichment Program at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, and as an active member of the quilting group at Mount Ararat Baptist Church.
