WHEREAS on November 14, 2006, the Board of Directors of "Neighbors in the Strip," a coalition of Strip District businesses, will be holding its 2006 Legends of the Strip benefit, an event that will celebrate its 2006 Legends honoree, Alan Siger; and
WHEREAS as the President and CEO of Consumers Produce Company, Incorporated, a successful, family-owned and operated produce vendor housed in the Strip District, Alan Siger is also a member of the Neighbors in the Strip organization; and
WHEREAS Mr. Siger has been the recipient of a variety of appointments and awards that have sought to recognize his diligent efforts, including an appointment by the Secretary of Agriculture in 2002 and 2004 to the Fruit and Vegetable Industry's Advisory Committee; invited membership in the Young Presidents organization; the Chairmanship of the Board of the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association from 1992-1993; the University of Pittsburgh's Katz School of Business' 1999 Family Business of the Year award; Inc. Magazine's 1994 Entrepreneur of the Year in Wholesale Distribution award; and The Packer's 1993 Produce Man of the Year award; and
WHEREAS Mr. Siger has also dedicated himself to community service by donating time, financial support, and produce to many charities located in Pittsburgh and the entire region of Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS Mr. Siger's unwavering dedication, as coupled with his spirit of generosity, have allowed him to serve as an inspiration and role model for his friends, employees, and fellow Strip District neighbors.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby wishes to show its support for the Neighbors in the Strip organization and their 2006 Legends of the Strip honoree, Mr. Alan Siger, as together, they continue to devote their efforts toward promoting sustainable economic development within the City of Pittsburgh.
