Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges and recognizes Soul Day as a day that culturally educates, enlightens and empowers the African-American Community specifically, and all communities in general, and I do hereby declare Friday, November 17, 2006 as "Soul Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Donna Michele Baxter, Founder & Web Mistress of The Soul Pitt, whom has made major contributions to Pittsburgh's Soulful community, has created Soul Day to give Pittsburgh's residents an experience to further learn about Pittsburgh's multi-cultural community and to be informed about community and social events, businesses and other topics that may interest them; and
WHEREAS, Soul Day has a goal to expose residents, current and future visitors to Pittsburgh, about all the culturally, socially, professionally and educational soulful resources that exist in this city.
WHEREAS, Soul Day is planned to encourage all demographics and age groups who have, want or appreciate "Soul" to discover the various ethnic groups who reside in the Pittsburgh market Soulful manner.
WHEREAS, Soul Day will help to accurately inform out-of-towners, who may have questions, concerns and/or misconceptions about Pittsburgh's diverse cultures, including the Soulful African-American community, which is much more vibrant than they'd been led to believe.
 
WHEREAS, Soul Day is an excellent opportunity for all Pittsburghers to experience and understand the rich diversity of our city and to recognize and celebrate the practices and heritage of the many ethnic groups who contribute so much to this area.
WHEREAS, Soul Day promotes Soulful, cultural, professional, creative, original, innovative, fun, resourceful information with style & savvy.  This original concept sets a standard for other various soulful resources to join the collaboration and partner to make Soul Day a regional tradition.
