Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends and thanks the Beth Shalom Award recipients for all their great work for the community.

WHEREAS, the Beth Shalom Congregation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was founded in 1917; and
 
WHEREAS, Beth Shalom is honoring four members of the Congregation who have made a significant contribution to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, Steven Berger will receive the Ethel and Bernard Halpern Young Leadership Award for his numerous volunteer activities, including his current role as the Overall Library Minyan Coordinator and his service on Beth Shalom's board of trustees; and
 
WHEREAS, Bernice Meyers will receive the Nathan E. Snader Award for her volunteer work as a board member as well as co-chair of Rabbi Steindel's Installation Weekend, the 75th Anniversary Gala and the 1998 Celebration Dinner; and
 
WHEREAS, Harvey Robins will receive the Member of the Year Award for his many active years with Beth Shalom, as a member and president of the Men's Club, for his service on the Executive Committee and subsequently as President of the synagogue; and
 
WHEREAS, Howard Valinsky will receive the United Jewish Federation Volunteer of the Year Award for his volunteer work with many pre-school activities and the Community Day School, and as former coach for the JCC's Little Champs Super Hoopers; and
 
WHEREAS, the awards will be presented on November 16, 2006, 25 Cheshvan 5767, at the Beth Shalom Synagogue in Squirrel Hill at 6:30 p.m.
