Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Pittsburgh Passion for their superb 2005 football season, their fantastic sportsmanship, their goodwill endeavors for the benefit of others and most of all, welcomes the team and all of its supporters to the South Side. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that today, December 25, 2005, be hereby declared "Pittsburgh Passion Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion semi-professional women's full contact football team was formed in March 2002 and is owned by Passion player, Teresa Conn; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion competes in the National Women's Football Association (NWFA), a five year old, 36 team league, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The team is a member of the Northern Conference and plays an 8 game regular season schedule; and

WHEREAS, every year, players are selected for the team after going through a tryout and interview process to test physical abilities and gauge interest in playing. Since the organization's inception in 2002, over 2000 women have attended Passion tryouts; and

WHEREAS, radio, television and newspaper coverage of the organization has steadily increased throughout the Pittsburgh area during the Passion's three year history. The team members and staff are very active year round attending community events, working with local youth groups and building relationships with corporate sponsors to further promote the game of women's football; and

WHEREAS, the players are residents of the City of Pittsburgh and its surrounding suburbs, and typically commute 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for meetings, strength and conditioning workouts and practice some 3-4 times per week; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, the Passion ended its season with a 5-3 record, led by Coach Ed Jenkins and had attendance of crowds approaching 4000 per game; and

WHEREAS, next year, the Pittsburgh Passion will call South Side Stadium home, where they will play all of their 2006 season home games.
