Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks the Make-A-Wish Foundation for its commitment to making special dreams come true for children and whishes them much success with the 2005 campaign. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that December 12 through 23, 2005 is declared "LIGHT UP A CHILD'S LIFE" days in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is an international non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to fill them with hope, strength and joy; and
 
WHEREAS, the Foundation was founded in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona by a small group of people who fulfilled the wish of a little boy wanting to be a State Trooper for a day and has now grown to 78 chapters in the U.S. and 28 affiliates internationally; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh chapter of Make-A-Wish was founded in 1983 with thirteen wishes granted and has grown steadily with the help of caring volunteers and to date they have granted over 7,000 wishes; and
 
WHEREAS, the most popular wish is for a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, which nearly half the children wish for, but there are also wishes for shopping sprees, computers, celebrity meetings and trips to other destinations; and
 
WHEREAS, beginning Monday, December 12th, and continuing through Friday, December 23rd, the Male-A-Wish Foundation along with their partner WISH 99.7 FM will kick-off the 17th Annual "Light Up a Child's Life" campaign to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania during which nearly half of the Foundation's annual budget is raised.
