Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh commends and recognizes Dr. Miriam Adrana Bennett White for her years of dedicated service to her family and community, and extends a "Happy Birthday" to you and many more.

Whereas, Dr. Miriam Adrana Bennett White was born and raised in Pittsburgh as the sixth child of Hannibal and Katrina Bennett. Dr. White lived in the Lawrenceville community and attended the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and

 

Whereas, immediately after graduation in June of 1949 from Schenley High School, Dr. White attended and graduated from the Bellefield Girls Vocational School of Cosmetology in 1951.  That same year in June, she married Clarence Tony White; and

 

Whereas, after enjoying several years of success in the cosmetology business, Dr. White felt the need to share the experience. In 1971 Dr. White enrolled in the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy to obtain a teachers license and the University of Pittsburgh to secure a bachelors degree in Vocational Education. This enabled her to teach seventeen years for the Board of Education. Dr. White was active with such organizations as the Pennsylvania State Association of Modern Beauticians and Barbers and the National Beauty Culturist League where she received her Doctoral Degree; and

 

Whereas, Dr. White has served as the secretary to the Progressive Beauticians and Barbers of Western Pa; Third Vice-President of Pennsylvania State Associate; Member of Homewood-Brushton Community Improvement Association; Class of 1949 Reunion Committee; Alumni of Harty Bible School; Sixty-seven year member of the Good Hope Baptist Church; Chairperson of Building Fund; Vice-Chairperson of Trustee; Life long member of the Ralph Swan Choral; Co-owner of the National Black Opera House. Dr. White is also a recipient of a host of awards and certificates and currently operates Hair Designs by Miriam; and

 

Whereas, of all Dr. Whites accomplishments, her greatest is being the mother of two children, Renee and Michael; grandmother of three, Gina, Brandi and Mia; great-grandmother of six of whom she is affectionately called "Buddy" by D' Andre, Shayla, Taylor, Maiya, Angel and Morgan. Dr. White is the sister to Julian Bennett, and Aunt to a host of nieces and nephews, a cousin and friend to many. Her motto is "If God can't be included, don't do it".
