Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends and thanks the $1 Energy Fund for their commitment to the citizens of the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the $1 Energy Fund has been helping low-income City of Pittsburgh constituents since 1983 who experience difficulty in affording adequate and safe utility supplies in order to maintain basic living standards; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2004-2005 $1 Energy Fund received 4,703 applications from residents of Allegheny County and approximately $1,302,440.00 in grant funds were distributed to help roughly 12,361 of our neighbors and the $1 Energy Fund has assisted over 170,000 people throughout Pennsylvania in the past five years; and
 
WHEREAS, the $1 Energy Fund has assisted approximately 2,455 households in the City of Pittsburgh and has provided approximately $797,010 in utility assistance serving approximately 7,046 City of Pittsburgh residents; and
 
WHEREAS, the $1 Energy Fund partners with Pennsylvania America Water, Columbia Gas, Equitable Gas, Dominion Peoples, and Duquesne Light in the City of Pittsburgh to help our disadvantaged neighbors to stay safe and warm throughout the year; and
 
WHEREAS, the $1 Energy Fund also focuses on education, weatherization, and payment counseling to help consumers along the path to self-sufficiency and works with over 150 agencies throughout Pennsylvania to review every application fairly and individually determining household circumstances when awarding grants; and
