Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Monday, November 14, 2005 be hereby declared “Duquesne Light Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Duquesne Light Company is a leader in the transmission and distribution of electric energy, is committed to investing in the success of the communities it serves, is a dedicated community partner whose employees donate thousands of hours in volunteer service to address the critical needs of the region, and offers superior customer service and reliability to more than half a million customers in southwestern Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, each autumn, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides grants to low and limited income homeowners and renters to help pay for their home energy bills.  Recipients of these grants never have to pay them back, and Duquesne Light Company encourages all individuals who qualify to apply; and
WHEREAS, Duquesne Light employee volunteers were on hand to assist eligible individuals in completing their LIHEAP applications from 9AM till 1PM on Saturday November 12, 2005; and
WHEREAS, residents were able to apply at one of the five following locations to receive assistance in filling out their applications: Goodwill Industries located on the South Side, in Rochester and in McKeesport, and the Holy Family Institute located in Swissvale and McKees Rocks; and
WHEREAS, with a total of more than 40 Duquesne Light volunteers, these five sites offered free copying of all necessary documents and the applications were hand delivered from each location saving the applicants postage.  Individuals who completed an application early also increased their chance of receiving a grant.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Duquesne Light and their many volunteers for their dedication to their customers and for the help they provided on the LIHEAP applications, ensuring residents warmth as the cold weather approaches.  We also commend Duquesne Light Company and its employees for valuing ALL of their customers, and continuing their long-standing commitment to invest their resources in the well-being of the residents of the City of Pittsburgh and the entire southwestern Pennsylvania region.
