Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 15, 2005 as “America Recycles Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, America Recycles Day (ARD) is a national, all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose goal is to encourage Americans to recycle and to purchase recycled products; and
 
WHEREAS, The mission of America Recycles Day is to hold an annual national awareness event to promote the social, environmental, and economic benefits of recycling and purchasing recycled goods; and
 
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1997, the ARD campaign has grown substantially. Last year, residents in every state of the nation participated in America Recycles Day and pledged to recycle; and
 
WHEREAS, The average American generates about 4.6 pounds of solid trash per day, and in order to preserve a healthy environment, it is vital that waste materials are recycled whenever possible; and
 
WHEREAS, In honor of America Recycles Day 2005, The City of Pittsburgh will collect mixed paper and corrugated cardboard from residents through a one time curbside collection during the week of November 14, 2005;
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges and commends the hard work of America Recycles Day and their outstanding commitment to promoting the social, environmental, and economic benefits of recycling and purchasing recycled goods to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and
