Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre for enriching the Pittsburgh theater scene by providing high quality, affordable and accessible productions, offering strong community partnerships, and seeking talented local employees to perform, direct and design its productions.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre was founded in 1996 to diversify our region's theatrical offerings with high quality, affordable and accessible productions; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre has grown to the area's third-largest professional theater company, producing plays that are story-based and language driven from all eras and cultures; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre has emerged as a significant employer in the Pittsburgh arts community, and is committed to hiring local talent and as an Equity company, provides significant benefits to its employees; and
 
WHEREAS, just this year, the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre provided a seven week artists' residency in a local elementary school working with 400 students, performed 5 student matinees for more than 1000 children, and visited 12 schools with cast members to prepare students for performances; and
 
WHEREAS, as the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre approaches its second decade, it seeks to further expand theater opportunities through community partnerships.
WHEREAS, on Thursday, November 17, 2005, the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre will host its Fall Gala DECADEnce, celebrating 10 years of intoxicating theater, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Warhol, with appearances by PICT stars past and present as well as featuring the music of Olga Watkins.
