Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh commends and recognizes these individuals and organizations for the selflessness contributions and charity to the communities in our region.

WHEREAS, Tuesday November 15, 2005 is officially recognized as, National Philanthropy Day, celebrated by numerous fundraisers, government leaders, businesses and individuals who wish to honor all the contributions philanthropy has made; and
 
WHEREAS, National Philanthropy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has accomplished, as well as what still needs to be done. This year, tens of thousands of people will show the world that the spirit of giving is alive and well, and stronger than ever; and
 
WHEREAS, the spirit of generosity has never been more powerful. Last year, millions of men and women around the world donated billions of dollars to their favorite charities. Through these acts of kindness they are showing time and time again that we can change the world, cure incurable diseases, fight for just causes and teach our children well; and
 
WHEREAS, while there is still much work to be done to make the world a better place, Western Pennsylvania Chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals believe it's time to recognize the countless individuals and organizations that have already given so much; and
 
WHEREAS, Western Pennsylvania Chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals 2005 Awardees are: Outstanding Philanthropist: Herb and Barbara Shear: Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser: Sandra Usher and Peter C. Veeder: Outstanding Philanthropic Organization: WTAE: Outstanding Foundation: FISA Foundation: Outstanding Youth Award: St. Elizabeth Elementary School Students: and Outstanding Fund Raising Executive: James W. Cunningham, CFRE.
