WHEREAS, as we celebrate and salute Mrs. Geraldine C. Allen on her 75th birthday, it is with great pride and joy that we recognize and commend her for many years of service to family and community while maintaining employment at the Pittsburgh Veteran Administration Health Care System; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Allen was born and raised in Homestead and is a true advocate for equal rights. Mrs. Allen was the first to insist there be a Union that represents African Americans while employed at, what was then, Leech Farm Road Hospital on Highland Drive; and
WHEREAS, like many African American women, Mrs. Allen had a choice between family and getting an education, she chose to do both and balanced them quite well. After raising her eight brothers and sisters, then raising her own five children, this remarkable woman went back to school and received her high school diploma inspiring her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren to pursue their education; and
WHEREAS; Mrs. Allen has enriched so many children with her kindness and compassion, always making them feel as though they are a part of her family. In the words of Maya Angelou "You are a phenomenal woman".

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh commends and recognizes Mrs. Geraldine C. Allen for her years of dedicated service to her family and community, and extends a "Happy 75th Birthday" to you and many more.
