Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Bob Schlesinger, the “Mayor of Wallingford Street,” for being a true activist who brings people together, and who has worked tirelessly for Shadyside and the City's safety and well-being; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Monday, November 7, 2005, “Bob Schlesinger Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Martin "Bob" Schlesinger has served the City of Pittsburgh for more than 6 decades; and
 
WHEREAS, on the neighborhood level, Bob served on Shadyside Action Coalition as President and Public Safety Liaison, and was involved in finding good solutions to the challenges in his neighborhood; and
 
WHEREAS, on the political front, Bob served as Judge of Elections for 40 years; and
 
WHEREAS, A lifelong ham radio operator, he is active in the VHS Society, Breezeshooters, and since the 1960's has been active with Navy MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System), which relays messages from soldiers around the world to their families in Western Pennsylvania, and coordinates disaster emergency services; and
 
WHEREAS, Bob helped to establish the Ham Radio Center in the Allegheny County 911 Center, and has gone out on many a snowy night to staff the center during emergencies; and
 
WHEREAS, He has enthusiastically volunteered in communications for many city events, including the Great Ride, the Great Race, River Sweep, Race for the Cure and the Vintage Grand Prix - to name just a few.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Monday, November 7, 2005, "Bob Schlesinger Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
