Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby applaud Lynette Lederman for demonstrating a strong civic commitment that strengthens the democratic form of government and builds a stronger community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Thursday October 20, 2005 as "Lynette Lederman Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Lynette Lederman has spent a career in public service and volunteerism focused on the needs of women and children at risk; and,

WHEREAS, a registered nurse by profession, Lynette began her career in neonatal, pediatrics and public health. She now works for Pittsburgh City Councilman Douglas Shields where she is an integral and vital part of the day to day operations in serving the constituents of Council District Five and beyond; and,

WHEREAS, participating in voting drives, candidate forums, and public meetings, Lynette created a public image in which she was able to promote identifiable needs within the community; and,

WHEREAS, Lynette chose the National Council of Jewish Women for volunteer work as its mission is to improve the lives of women, children and families allowed a greater flexibility in meeting the most obvious of needs; and,

WHEREAS, as a long time member and immediate past President of the National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section, Lynette has been able to be a part of the survey of the community to identify needs not met by the government, social service agencies or other organizations and maintain and create projects that have proven to have great value to its recipients and the surrounding community; and,

WHEREAS, Under her direction the National Council of Jewish Women began a Pic-A-Bag Project, Children's Play Rooms in the Courts and

WHEREAS, she has supervised the Silent Witness Initiative, a domestic violence awareness project; and,

WHEREAS, Lynette has used these platforms and others to call attention and demand reform in these areas and has been recognized by several organizations including being named Citizen of the Year by the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition in 2001; and,

WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 20, 2005, Lynette, will be honored at the League of Women Voters 2005 Good Government Award Dinner which celebrates Civic Leadership.
