Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc. for their faithful service to their community and commends the Omega Wifes for their continuous support and services. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, declares October 9th, 2005, "OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc." Day in the City of Pittsburgh. Whereas, OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc. will celebrate Annual Men's Day Services with Homewood A.M.E. Zion Sunday, October 9, 2005 ; and

Whereas, OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc. is organized and operated by professional, educated African American men who volunteer to improve the quality of life of people in the greater Pittsburgh community; and

Whereas OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc.was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1925 by brothers Louis Bellinger, a graduate of Howard University School of Architecture, Oliver P. Johnson, a graduate of Howard University School of Law, Bertram Woodruff, a graduate of University of Pittsburgh, and Pussell Anderson also a graduate of University of Pittsburgh; and

Whereas, Omega men have served the Pittsburgh area since 1925. Among them: William P. Young, first black Secretary of Labor and Industry for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Oliver P. Johnson, first black District Attorney of Allegheny County; Paul Jones, first black to serve on City Council, and John M, Brewer, first black Principal of a Pittsburgh Public School.

Whereas, OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc. is supported by the Omega Wives whose purpose is to encourage, standby and assist IOTA Phi Chapter and provide scholarships and charitable services; and

Whereas, OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. IOTA PHI Foundation of Pittsburgh, Inc. operates a Fraternity House located in the Lincoln-Larimer community of the city where it serves as a neighborhood resource for the various social action programs. It has also created the Iota Phi Foundation that provides college scholarships. College tours, mentoring programs and holiday projects to the greater Pittsburgh area.
