Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank the Pittsburgh Mediation Center for increasing public awareness about conflict resolution and its many benefits. The Pittsburgh Mediation Center and its partners support efforts to resolve conflict, restore relationships, and build peaceful communities; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare that Thursday October 20, 2005 be designated as "Conflict Resolution Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, conflict resolution encompasses mediation, arbitration, conciliation, training, victim-offender mediation, restorative justice programs in schools and communities, and other formal and informal responses to conflict; and
 
WHEREAS, conflict resolution processes empower individuals, communities, organizations, schools, and families to foster communication and devise solutions that are tailored to their particular needs and interests; and
 
WHEREAS, collaborative responses to conflicts are used by schools, administrative agencies, businesses, hospitals, houses of worship, and courts to effectively and efficiently resolve disputes; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Mediation Center, Mediation Council of Western PA, Center for Victims of Violence and Crime, and the ADR Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association actively promote the peaceful and creative resolution of disputes not only as a way of solving disputes, but also as a means towards a more peaceful society.
