Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Judy Robinson, Joan Bauer, and Sankar Roy for their dedication to the rebuilding of communities worldwide; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Tuesday, October 11, 2005, “Poets for Humanity Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, following the tragic events of last year's tsunami, three Pittsburgh area poets, Judy Robinson, Joan Bauer, and Sankar Roy were determined to use their poetic voice to make a difference; and
 
WHEREAS, the local poets issued a call to poets worldwide to submit works for a new book entitled Only the Sea Keeps; and
 
WHEREAS, Only the Sea Keeps is a collection of 80 poems from some of the world's most distinguished poets and has just been published in New Delhi, India, where it has become a best-seller, and Calgary, Canada; and
 
WHEREAS, proceeds from the sale of Only the Sea Keeps are being donated to survivors of the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina and to rebuilding libraries in South Asia; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh will be home to three upcoming book launch events; October 19th at the Society for Contemporary Crafts at 7:00 PM, October 22nd at the Squirrel Hill Carnegie Library from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, and November 30th at the Waterfront Barnes and Noble.
