Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace Children's Program for providing a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where so many of Pittsburgh's children thrive.

WHEREAS, ten years ago, the late Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace, Senior Program Officer at The Pittsburgh Foundation and former Deputy Director of the local child welfare system, envisioned a safe and stimulating after school program for children growing up in public and subsidized housing; and
 
WHEREAS, the Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace Children's Program bears the name of the woman who believed that the individuals who use program services should be involved in the creation, governance and implementation of those services ; and
 
WHEREAS, such an obvious conclusion was truly a revolutionary idea in 1995 when the Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace Children Center was first established; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2004, the Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace Children's Program became affiliated with Family Resources, whose mission it is to prevent and treat child abuse by strengthening families and neighborhoods; and
 
WHEREAS, today, the Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace Children's Program provides year-round programming for over 900 children, ages 5-16, in 18 public and subsidized housing communities in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, to honor the vision of the late Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace, and to recognize the children, staff and supporters of the program, the 10th Anniversary of the program will be celebrated on Friday, October 14 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Duranti's Restaurant in Oakland.
