Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates and commends Mr. Coles for his years of dedication to his family, his indomitable faith in God, his commitment to his community and his unceasing willingness to serve it, and wishes him a warm and happy 80th birthday; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Saturday, October 1, 2005 “Floyd Coles Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Mr. Floyd Coles, a lifelong Pittsburgher and dedicated community activist is celebrating his 80th birthday on Saturday, October 1, 2005; and
 
Whereas, Mr. Coles, who graduated from Peabody High School, went on to college, having withdrawn after two years only to answer his nation's call to service in its time of need, returned home and went to embalming school; and
 
Whereas, Mr. Coles went on to serve as a pathology assistant at the South Side Hospital and then as an assistant coroner for Allegheny County, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner before retirement in 1991; and
 
Whereas, Mr. Coles has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America, is a member of the East End Male Chorus, a faithful member of his church since he was 12 years old, is a tireless activist for East Liberty, where he resides and still gives freely his time to a host of other groups and activities; and
 
Whereas, Mr. Coles has stood by his family through the good times and the bad, through the trials and tribulations of all these many years and with a vigor and energy that should stand as an example to us all.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Saturday, October 1, 2005 "Floyd Coles Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
