WHEREAS, there is a growing consensus that all children need to play as part of their healthy development; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of play in learning life skills, the Center for Creative Play was established in 1995 when five parents of children with disabilities created a place where all children, with or without disabilities, could play together; and
WHEREAS, originally founded to meet the social needs of the founding families, the mission of the Center for Creative Play has expanded to include a focus on creating environments that feature universal accessibility and developmental advantage to all of its visitors; and
WHEREAS, today, the Center for Creative Play is the only indoor play space in the country that meets the full range of physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs necessary for successful child development; and
WHEREAS, as the Center for Creative Play begins its second decade, it seeks to further expand opportunities for all children to come and play!

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Center for Creative Play for expanding the horizon of so many of Pittsburgh's children.
