Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh encourages the citizens of Pittsburgh to participate in fire prevention activities at home, work and school and to heed the message: “Test Your Smoke Alarms”. AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the week of October 9 through 15, 2005, to be Fire Prevention Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, fire deaths due to smoke inhalation outnumber fire deaths to burns; and
 
WHEREAS, smoke detectors are our first line of defense against fire; and
 
WHEREAS, 79% of all fire deaths occur in the home; and      
 
WHEREAS, a smoke detector that is not working cannot protect us from deadly smoke and fire, "Test Your Smoke Alarms" is an important message to communicate to our community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Firefighters of the City of Pittsburgh are dedicated to the safety of life and property from the devastating effects of fire; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh encourages the citizens of Pittsburgh to participate in fire prevention activities at home, work and school and to heed the message:  "Test Your Smoke Alarms".
 
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the week of October 9 through 15, 2005, to be Fire Prevention Week in the City of Pittsburgh.
