Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges the runners for their work toward peace and harmony and extends its appreciation to Operation Weed & Seed, National City Bank and Earl Jones, Sr. for their support and coordination of The World Harmony Run in the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that August 1, 2005 be hereby declared "World Harmony Run Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Sri Chinmoy founded the World Harmony Run in 1987.  This is a global Torch Relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding; and
 
WHEREAS, the World Harmony Run touches the lives of millions of people along its route.  It does not seek to raise money or promote any political cause but rather to create goodwill among peoples and nations; and
 
WHEREAS, this year an international team of runners will carry a flaming Torch, symbolizing humanity's aspiration for oneness, through more than 70 countries around the globe; and
 
WHEREAS, people from thousands of communities along the route will join the runners.  As they pass the Torch from hand to hand, their shared joy strengthens their dreams for a world of oneness and harmony; and
 
WHEREAS, strong support from organizations in the City of Pittsburgh have helped to make this run possible.  Operation Weed & Seed has provided shirts for the runners and National City Bank has donated the Banner and refreshments for the runners; and
 
WHEREAS, Earl V. Jones, Founder and President of the Peace on Earth Campaign is co-coordinator for the World Harmony Run that will take place on Monday August 1st.  The Torch Bearer will stop in front of the City-County Building and will pass it to the spectators.
